The most important thing that any photographer must understand is that photography is a business! If you wish to survive from your art, you must run and treat your business as any large corporation would and you are your company’s CEO.

This video was shared with me earlier today. I think every photographer has heard these negotiating tactics, unfortunately many photographers give in. I have to ask – WHEN have you ever walked into a restaurant and negotiated a price for your meal? Oh, and I think I heard this one last week, “We want you to show us how you did it so we can go ahead and do it inhouse next time.” Yea, ummm. No.

When on the set, I tend to shoot a lot of images of people “just having fun”. They’re not necessarily in focus, or technically correct, or beautiful, but they’re fun. They’re the test shots that we’re doing to make the shoot flow smoother, they’re the crew being themselves. You may even catch a few of me in there.
