If you're a regular reader of exposingFashion.com, you know that I oppose the New York City Mayors office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting's proposal to charge a $300 New Project Application Fee for each new project seeking to shoot on New York City property and requiring a permit. On June 3rd, 2010, the Mayor's office held a hearing to hear opinions on the matter. Deputy Commissioner John Battista sat up on the stage as at least 10 different film, broadcasting and photo related organizations stepped...

A sign of the changing times – Advertising Photographers of America becomes American Photographic Artists
June 2, 2010 -  No comment

Yesterday, Advertising Photographers of America became American Photographic Artists. Though the acronym didn't change (APA), I believe this change represents an overall change in the photographic industry. In the press release announcing the change, Stephen Best, CEO of APA, says, "The advertising photographer is now someone who might have crossed over from the fine art, editorial, catalog, or music industries". The text of the APA Press Release: Advertising Photographers of America (APA) Adopts...

A Return Call From the MOFTB & Industry Associations On Board
May 6, 2010 -  No comment

IN RE: FIGHT BACK: NYC MOFTB proposes charging a “New Project Application Fee” for Shooting Permits. I just got off the phone with John Battista, Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Mayors Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting. He returned my call within a couple hours of leaving a message for him. In all fairness to Mr Battista, he seems like a really nice guy in a tough position handed down by his boss, Mayor Bloomberg. Mr. Battista's explained that as a result of Mayor Bloomberg's across the board...
